End of School Year 2017

the 2017 school year seem to fly by. feels like it was just yesterday we were attending the year 6 / upsr briefing and now its already the first week of school holidays.

when we started the year, i said to myself, this is going to be a good year. and yes, it was. apart from amir's disappointing upsr results, the boys have had a very active year in school. we ended the year with a prefect, a prefect-elect, 2 qhatam quran, 3 class monitors, year 6 graduate, first and second positions at the school's bintang kecil, runners up at the school road run, a president of the science and maths society, a treasurer for the football club, various football tournaments, participation in amal islami.

now that the school holiday has begun, its time to sort out old school uniform, throw away school shoes, wash school bags, recycle school books, get new school uniform, buy new school shoes and replenish school stationeries. and on the 3rd day of the school holidays, i have managed to do all of those except get new stationeries. talk about over-excited hah!

Amir's Primary School Journey

six years of primary-schooling seem to just fly by. i remember the day amir stepped into the big compound of his primary school, the orientation, the books (many, many books), it feels just like yesterday. i still remember him, sitting down in the open hall, with his classmates, listening to the teachers talk on stage, and one boy behind him, slipped his hand into amir's bag and took out his pencil case. i think that incident shocked me and brought me down to earth with a bang, this is what he will face and we'll be leaving him alone to face it.

along the way, there've been so many incidents and dramas, the one that sticks to my mind and i bring up occasionally, was when amir was in year 5 and was getting used to bringing lunch boxes. his friends would ask for his food, and he would not say no. in the end, his lunch box would be empty and he wouldn't be eating and would have no money to buy food. this was when it got really bad, he would be asking his friend for money. and it went on and on for weeks, until one day the story broke and we found out he owed his friends around $30-$40. we made him pay back his friend and write an apology note to him and his mom. it was painful and something i would remember for years and years to come.

there've also been love notes to girls, messages to girl, fights with friends, bully incidents, so many in the short six years.

on the other side of the fence, there's also been shining moments, his class monitor stint, selected to be part of the school football team for 3 years, elected as the science & maths society president, and roles in the football club and the cadet society. his last year in school was his most active year. he was zumba-ing on stage til the last day of school.

amir's never been good with passing info he received in school, so we would always end up with wrong info or be late with information. good thing i've got parents i can run to to vouch the information he passed or to get information he hasn't passed.

the next phase in his education path will not be an easy one. i had plans for him but they did not become reality. i'm very sad because of that but hopefully it wont digress too much from our overall plans.
