Movie, Makan & Medicine

we havent been to the movies for ages. cant even remember the last one we watched. was it revenge of the sith? was it goal? was it harry potter and the goblet of fire? i think it was the 2nd pirates of the carribean. yup...it was. left amir at my aunt's house, went with my cousins. halfway through i started crying. on the way we picked up amir, i was still crying. when i saw hubby carrying him out from the house, still groggy from sleep, i totally bawled! i hugged and hugged him all the way home.

last night, we went to see the third installment of pirates of the carribean. we wanted to watch spiderman, thinking the crowd wouldnt be too huge. but my sis said they've seen it. so she booked the midnight show for pirates. what did we do with the boys? leave them? absolutely not!! the boys tagged along. yup...they watched a 1am show with us. they were both already asleep before we left the house at 1230am. amir was confused but once we reached the cineplex he remembered and started chanting "yea yea...pirate". asyraf was just happy to be cuddled.

how did they behave? amir wouldnt sleep and watched the entire 3 hour show. he didnt even blink when davy jones came on the screen (i, on the other hand, was watching from behind my palm). asyraf...dear, dear asyraf...slept throughout the movie. he woke up fussing about halfway through, wanting a diaper change and a bottle. then he feel asleep again. he was easy, i just missed 10 minutes of the whole movie.

my sis had doa selamat at her house later that night. she invited the whole clan. even my aunts from KB came down. her house was packed and all the food totally habis.

the grandmas and the minahs getik...

the boys' health update - a week on, after cutting gerber, junkfood and religiously applying the lotions and creams provided, my boys' skin are smooth once again. however, both were down with fever and flu during the weekend. asyraf's fever has been coming and going for a week now, it gets bad (well, not that bad) at night, as his nose is so blocked he cant breathe. he's also coughing badly due to the phlegm. hubby took him to the doctor today as he threw up twice last night. amir's fever came and went within a day. after 3 volterons, a couple doses of phenergen and paracetamol and one bad throwing up session (it just had to happen at my sister's house), he was up and about again.

doesnt look like they have eczema, doest it? and thanks to their pead, no scars even...

Alone Time

took the day off today. had to go for a blood test so i changed my weekend appointment to weekday to avoid the crowd. also, i didnt want to bring two (three actually) boys with me when i had my blood test taken. god knows the queue at the lab is freaking long, then at my gynae's clinic.

got to the hospital at 10am. wanted to leave earlier but i was afraid of the bottleneck after the damansara exit. settled my GL, handed my appointment card at the clinic and went to the lab. i was 2nd in line and didnt have to wait more than 10 minutes, thank god. then went back to the clinic. again i didnt have to wait long, i was the 3rd patient to see the doctor. but just before the nurse called me, the doctor had to go up to the OT. so i waited for another 20 minutes.

the doctor was a bit worried that i havent been eating since my weight remains constant for the past 2 months. well, its actually been decreasing since the baby's put on some. i told her maybe cos i'm active and always on the move (not surprising with 2 boys at home). this time around the baby could be seen so clearly. i saw everything, the spine, lungs, bladder, liver, heart, perut bulat...and yes, even at an early age he listens to mummy. this time around, memang he kangkang besar-besar and there it was. gynae said...confirm!! there was nothing else she could say but...confirm!! the only thing on my mind was...at least i dont have to think of another name! the baby even gave us a thumbs up sign to show that he's fine inside. that got me tearing a bit.

left the clinic happily and off i went to 1utama. i wanted to get a wedding present for hubby's cousin and wanted to check out the maternity section in jaya jusco. i've been told its quite good. it was actually, i'm surprised. they had loads of pants (which i needed desperately) and some nice casual tops. then i went to the supermarket. i've been craving to cook for the longest time. making chicken rice 2 weekends ago and cooking over the weekend wasnt enough. plus the boys wasnt at home, so i had the kitchen (and the house) all to myself.

taking a leaf out of lia's page err...blog, i made lasagna for dinner. hope hubby likes it, he's not much of a pasta person.

i also bought some sirloin for tomorrow's dinner, a surprise for hubby. marinated it while making the pasta sauce. tomorrow i'll just put it in the oven.

got my ice cream for dessert...

p/s after my last blog regarding the boys' eczema, i got a lot of concerned reactions. just wanted to assure everyone, the boys are fine. their eczema is seriously very minor. asyraf has close to no itchiness, just some redness behind his knees. amir has quite a few rashes on his legs and right arm but its nothing alarming. he's been eating chicken, eggs and other poultry items for ages and has no adverse reaction to them. his itchiness only started in the last couple of months when he's been exposed to junk food in school. we've already established the cause with his pead and his eczema can be controlled if the junk food intake stops. the pead didnt advise to change milk (amir has stopped drinking milk for a year now) and approves of the milk asyraf drinks. he didnt advise amir to stop eating poultry, he just says a big no-no to junk food and processed food (ie nuggets, burgers) and wholeheartedly encourages homecooked food. for asyraf, he just says no more gerber. give him porridge with no ikan bilis. the rest he says, just apply the long list of creams, lotions and oitments he prescribed, insyaallah the boys will be rashes-less.

Who's The Big Boy Now?

asyraf izzuddin!!

my baby turned 6 months today.

dr miriam stoppard wrote "boys are more likely to grow in sudden spurts". how true it is for asyraf. one day he was this screaming, crying, frowning baby who refused to do anything but cry and drink and sleep to a smiling, laughing baby who can roll over, shuffle, grab things.

asyraf's pead diagnosed him (and amir) with eczema today. now we have to control their food intake. no more gerber, no more junk food. they also have to put on countless lotions, creams, ointments and bathe with a special soap. aw man...this must come from mummy's side of the family.

Family Time

our weekend was initially packed with plans. on saturday we had a housewarming in ampang for lunch, then dinner was planned with my sisters in the curve. on sunday i wanted to visit my best friend who had just given birth to her 3rd boy. but before dinner on saturday, asyraf had a slight temperature and was having flu. i told my friend we'd visit her next weekend as we didnt want to bring asyraf over to her house in that condition.

so sunday was our family time. it started quite late as we came home around 11pm the night before and slept after midnight. i didnt want to go out for breakfast, so i made french toast with syrup for hubby, sunny side up and toast and beans for myself and amir had a bowlful of cornflakes with milk. after breakfast, hubby cleaned the washing machine and the kawasan yang sewaktu dengannya, and polished his working shoes. i did a load of laundry and cleaned the dining area. amir as usual, was hovering nearby watching what his daddy was doing and singing everything from "old macdonalds" to "twinkle twinkle little star" to counting from 1-10 to reciting the doa makan.

it was such a hot day, and we took shelter in the new family room. it was cool in there and before long, one by one fell asleep. i wanted to cook chicken rice for the longest time but it was too hot to go to giant (plus there's just so many people) and the supermarket nearby dont sell fresh food. then my sister texted me, saying she wanted to come over. so i got her to get me the ingredients.

the chicken rice. made the chicken, the soup, the rice and the kicap. hubby made the cili and ginger and cut the veggies.

they actually came to swim in amir's very small pool...

Boys Update II

i'm off work today (and tomorrow, if i feel like it) due to acute tonsillitis. my throat's been bugging me the past 2 weeks, i noticed i had a small cut on my right tonsil earlier. then it became a full-blown sore throat. it was extremely red, especially last weekend. getting 3 mouth ulcers at the same time didnt help. my throat itches so bad that i'd cough and choke until i threw up.

the doctor advised me to rest and drink a lot of fluid. after the visit to the doctor, i stopped by giant to get a tub of ice cream. i got my self 2 tubs - coffee and cookies and cream. i'm actually craving for haagen dasz' strawberry cheesecake, but there wasnt any. stopped by to get a copy of "parents" magazine.

so here i am. alone at home. the boys are in daycare and hubby's gone to a funeral. i miss my boys. i know people always say not to forego your "me-time" and to find time away from your kids, but not me. i dont think i can sit still for a facial or a massage without starting to cry, thinking of the boys. i've even turned down invitations to weddings, lunches, dinners, buka puasas, because i cant bear to leave them at home.

amir
god...what cant amir do at the moment? well, he cant stop talking for one! from the moment he wakes up, its "kum daddy, kum mummy...babyyyyyyyyyy..." till the moment he closes his eyes at night "nak tidoooooo..." in between he's either shouting, calling, singing, praying, ber-doa-ing, whining or laughing...his mouth switched to hyperdrive.

after spending a month at a nearby daycare (that i really regretted sending...he was so miserable there), amir is thriving at his new school. his teachers love him, there'd be 3-4 teachers sending him to the car and saying bye to him everyday. his teacher would always tell hubby that amir really, really talks a lot (erkk...more than the other 149 children there?? alamak...malu mummy). amir also picks up new things easily. words, numbers, actions, tones. hubby got the shock of his life one day when he went into the bathroom and saw amir taking his wudhu (he washed his hands, his ears and then his feet).

he also remembers all the scenes of the shows his watches. of course that is due to him watching them 100,000 a day. he'd scream before the kids scream in monsters inc. he'd say meeska, mooska mickey mouse, before mickey says them. he'd fly before mr noodle flies in elmo's world. and he would pick out all small details that we wouldnt.

amir would associate most things he sees with his family. like the astro logo is mummy's ball, celcom logo is mummy's ball, united logo is mummy's ball (eh banyak betul ball mummy), arsenal logo is daddy's ball, all girls are mummy and men are daddy (cinderella and ariel are mummy, much to tiza's irritation). if he sees things in a group of 4, be it chocolates, pillows, diapers, he would tell us which is the daddy, the mummy, the amir and the asyraf, according to the size.

he now have this habit of choosing sides. if i scold him, he'd rush to hubby whining "daddy...mummy buattttttt". if hubby scolds him, he'd come running to me "mummy, daddy buatttt..." last night, while colouring he accidentally poked himself with a colour pencil. as i was praying, he ran off to his daddy, going "daddy...colour buattttttt"

he's been eating a lot too lately. he used to be a fussy eater, whenever he ate that is. there were times when he just refuses to eat. he'd just munch on biscuits and chips. now its nasi and ikan everyday. while we have craving for mcd, he'd ask for nasi and keropok. he's put on a lot of fat and is very energetic. he looks healthy, and is seldom down with fever and flu. especially now that he's stopped sucking on his fingers. that's another achievement too...getting him to stop sucking his fingers. we wanted to try to many things, from putting salt, to putting things form this certain tree hubby saw on his fingers, but we finally managed to stop him with a few smacks on his mouth. heh...corporal punishment works!

last week he managed to stay dry and diaper-less for 3 hours. i bought him some nice football briefs, the first step to making him diaper-free. he felt weird being "free" and kept looking down to see that everything's still where they should be. i'm hoping he'll be toilet-trained before the end of the year.

i credit a lot of amir's development to his school. we were sceptical of the place initially, what with our experience with the previous nursery, then it being all-malay (we didnt want amir to grow up in an all-malay environment), and it also had a lot of children, but the place has been nothing but great to the boys. if there's any complain, they really take it seriously and would improve. if their teacher makes a mistake, the management isnt scared of relieving her of her duties (as we saw after amir was bitten), they teach things that we thought our children are too young to learn, like teaching amir to recite the doa makan, and they also have exams and sports day to show parents what the children have learnt. if hubby ever decides to leave his current employer, i think we will still leave the boys where they are.

asyraf
ahhh...my little baby. asyraf has transformed from the little "rough" baby that hubby and i know into an absolute angel. he seldom cries nowadays, unless its his sleeping time. he would wake up with a smile every morning, and sleep easily at night.

asyraf's development was slower compared to amir. amir had 2 teeth by the time he turned 1 month, was smiling and laughing before he was 2 months, rolled over in his 3rd month. but asyraf certainly took his time. not that i was comparing against amir but i was a bit worried as he wouldnt show any sign of development during his first 4 months. he would eat, sleep, and lie down one way and not change anything. then before he turned 5 months, he went through this cranky period. it was a long, stressful 2 weeks. he would cry and cry, didnt want to be fed, didnt want to sleep, or eat. then one day, it all stopped...and he rolled over! the next day he shuffled forward, and then he would be able to sit quietly in his car seat. a quiet little asyraf. he seriously stunned hubby and i. just when we thought we couldnt take it anymore, he changed.

the best of all his developments is, asyraf found his voice. and he has the sweetest voice. a voice he kept inside him for 5 long months. now when we have dinner, we no longer have to take turns carrying him. he can sit quietly in his car seat and entertain us with his voice.

i'm thankful that we didnt resort to pacifiers and buais even though asyraf was a difficult baby. there were times when i thought, heck with my principles, i need some rest! but thank god we persevered. asyraf did go through a "pacifying stage" though but instead of dummies, he'd get a bottle of milk. then he was overfed and would throw up. but that changed once we weaned him. speaking of weaning, he's also graduated from gerber 1st stage to 2nd stage. one small jar isnt enough for him anymore. i'm hoping he'd be a big eater and stop his milk by the time he's 12-18 months just like abang long.

but whatever asyraf's developments are, there's one thing he wont do easily, and that is smile. he absolutely refuse to smile, especially with people other than hubby, amir and i. even with us, it takes a lot to get him to smile. with amir, it looks like he's easy with both - smiling and frowning. he would smile first, then when amir gets all getik with him, it would be a big, black frown from asyraf. i can just imagine the two of them growing up, one so cheeky, the other so serious.

one thing we regret with asyraf is, teaching him to sleep on his tummy. hubby (and he does admit it) was the one who insisted that asyraf sleeps on his tummy. i wasnt too keen, due to SIDS. but hubby said, if this is the way this boy could sleep, and us get some rest, then this is the way this boy will sleep. and now...asyraf refuse to sleep in any other position than on his tummy. getting him to sleep in his car seat is a nightmare, once he gets sleepy i would have to put him over my shoulder for him to sleep. strollers need to be those that can lie absolutely flat, so that he can sleep. unlike amir who can sleep anytime and anywhere, asyraf is very choosy about where he sleeps. if he's sleepy and he doesnt like where he's currently at, well...then that's the old asyraf re-surfacing. sleeping on his tummy is also bad for his face. before sleeping asyraf likes to rub his face on the mattress. he does that when he's sleeping as well. so his cheeks are all so rough and scaly. its also bad as its one of the causes of his asthma, as he breathes in all the germs on the bedsheet. plus, now that he's learnt to roll over, he would get angry when his sleep is interupted.

last night, however, he managed to sleep on his back for the first time. i hope this will continue. susah lah carrying him in the car so that he can sleep, plus its not safe, is it?

boys...they're wonderful creation, arent they?

well, these are my boys, actually...i miss them so much.

Sports Day

it was amir's sports day today. according to his teacher he has been practising / training for over a week now, and would also get first place. we were looking forward to see him in action. unfortunately amir couldnt perform when his daddy & mummy were around. he was crying and whining and kept looking out for us across the field.

despite that he did manage to collect a lot of sweets in one event and was 2nd for the banana eating event. i think he even managed to get top placing for the running competition.

getting ready for the competitions...

collecting sweets, eating banana and running...

it was seriously a hot day and we left about an hour before the prize giving ceremony. hubby gave his name for the father's competition but we couldnt wait for it to start. the boys were getting cranky under the hot sun, especially asyraf.

on a sadder note, hoggiey (our cat of 12 years) died in her sleep today. may she rest in peace in cat heaven. amin. we're gonna miss your queen-ness, gi gi.
